Important reactivation of the fight against piracy in Mexico.

Contrary to what was observed during the previous administration, the current government, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum is showing a new course in the fight against piracy and smuggling in Mexico.

Recently, the Ministry of Economy and the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) coordinated a significant ride at one of the main hubs for the sale of counterfeit goods in the Historic Center of Mexico City, known as Izazaga 89. This ride was replicated yesterday in the state of Sonora, where approximately one million pieces of illicit merchandise, valued at approximately 150 million pesos, were seized by the aforementioned government agencies.

The message is clear: the current Ministry of Economy and IMPI are launching a full-scale assault on piracy and smuggling in Mexico, with an inter-institutional approach and the backing of the National Guard. This is expected to significantly improve the protection of intellectual property rights in Mexico.

In this context, these authorities are opening their doors to intellectual property rights holders, encouraging them to collaborate and support this coordinated fight. Now is the time to reactivate legal actions to defend intellectual property rights and to test the new support offered by Mexican authorities.
